Toilet Replacement Lids - Confusing unisex toilet signs in Swedish library throw visitors off balance - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

Reuters / Kai Pfaffenbach

Some visitors to the new public library in a northern Swedish town of Umeå received a real culture shock when they failed to properly read signs to the unisex toilets in the gender equal country.
A sign hanging between the toilet doors showed a male and a female figure, with arrows pointing in both directions, local media reported. “You usually look for a man or a woman, but here they've got both symbols,” one library visitor, Ida Lundström, complained to Swedish public broadcaster SVT, the Local reported.

While some remained at a loss, others rushed to take an advantage of an opportunity.
“I think it's great. Otherwise the men's toilet is usually available but there's a line to the ladies," Åsa Ågren Wikström told SVT.

Meanwhile, the library's section head said the arrows on the new sign actually show that you can use either toilet. “The arrows don't mean that women should go left and men right," Maria Westerlund explained.

GLOWING TOILET STICKERS AIM TO HELP MEN PUT SEAT DOWN - Toilet Replacement Lids - Toilet Tips - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

TO HELP MEN PUT SEAT DOWN

Toilet stickers to take off?

A couple have developed stickers to illuminate the toilet seat to avoid a common bathroom issue

A couple out of Pasadena, California, has created something that can potentially save relationships and marriages one butt at a time.

They created a device to help the fellows put the toilet seat down.

Their invention is called Potty Glo. It's made up of a mineral that glows in the dark which attaches to your toilet seat. The goal: to avoid those accidental midnight falls into the toilet.

Laughing, Alex Pi, co-founder of Potty Glo, said, "If this saves but one more butt, then I'll consider myself successful."

Right now, Potty Glo is only in the prototype stage.

The couple is hoping to bowl over potential investors on Kickstarter looking for cash to mass produce the luminescent stickers.

Toilet Replacement Lids - Toilet Tips - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

~ If you replace your entire toilet, check with your water company to see if they offer Ultra Low Flush rebates.
~ If your toilet tank lid has broken or chipped edges, take a fine file and carefully smooth down the sharp edges. Or remove the lid and do not use it.
~ Secure toilet tank lids in public or institutional environments with silicone. Apply clear silicone caulking between the bottom of tank lid and the face of the tank. When access to the inside of the tank is required, cut the silicone with a razor or knife.
~ If you have a five year old living with you, show them what's inside the toilet tank before they try to look on their own. Yup - sold another lid today to replace one broken by a curious toddler.
~ If your toilet seat won't hold in the up position, try these two remedies: Gently slide the toilet tank lid back on the tank as far as it will go and/or loosen the toilet seat mounting nuts and move the seat as far forward as it will go...retighten nuts.
~ Do not sit on the closed cover of your toilet seat. It was not designed to be a chair or stool. Do not stand on the cover or rim of your toilet seat. (Unless you want to buy a new one.) They were not designed nor intended for that much weight. Plus the risk of injury from slip-and-fall.
~ When working with hand tools on the wall or ceiling above a toilet, close the top on the seat and put covering such as towels or blankets over the tank lid. ...Enough to protect from impact if a tool or hardware is dropped. Padded moving blankets are best.

Toilet Replacement Lids - New toilets feature touchless flush - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

Here's just two of the new toilet innovations
1. Touchless flush
Now there's no need to touch a toilet handle in the bathroom. Most new touchless toilets don't even have handles! A built-in tank sensor flushes the toilet when a hand is waived over the top of the tank. There's also touchless add-on kits available that can adapt to many existing toilets.

2. Air freshener seats
These new toilet seats have built-in air freshener systems that include a fan, air filter and replaceable scent packs to fill the bathroom with a nice and light clean scent. Seats can be included with new toilets, and they also fit most existing toilets.

Both products are battery operated.

Toilet Replacement Lids - How much would you pay to use a stranger’s toilet? - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

How much would you pay to use a stranger’s toilet?

Flush with cash and desperate to flush?
New Yorkers are now renting out their toilets via an Airbnb-inspired app called “Airpnp” that shows the closest available commode and the price to use it, and instantly contacts the owner.
Currently a handful of private addresses in the city offer their johns to any Johnny-come-lately.
The Post located one porcelain throne that bills itself as a “charming Carroll Gardens commode” in a “cozy loft-style bathroom” on Smith Street, Brooklyn, at the OrangeYouGlad graphic-design studio.
“You’re our first!” yelled art director Connie Leonard excitedly when The Post walked in and asked to use the advertised WC.
The bathroom at the back of the office isn’t sparkling clean, but there’s a big stack of old Esquire magazines, fancy hand soap and “Poo Pourri” fragrance spray for any embarrassing scents.
“It’s a really smart idea, and if people actually used it more it would be very useful. It just needs to be more widely known,” said Leonard, 30.
The OrangeYouGlad crew doesn’t charge latrine users — unlike a toilet shark in Little Italy who was charging $20 for people who “really need to go and this will have to do!” The bathroom doesn’t have a sink. A toilet in Woodside, Queens, is a more affordable $1.
Duncan didn’t want a pee-ramid scheme. “It’s like a pay-it-forward. There’s going to be some time in our life when we really need to go, and it would be really nice for someone to lend you their potty,” she said.
“If you’re on a busy street in New York, you’re literally surrounded by hundreds of toilets but you can’t use them because they are in people’s apartments,” said app founder Travis Laurendine, 31.
Airpnp helps solves that problem. When a user clicks the button to check if the restroom is available, the owner gets a phone call from the app and decides if they want to lend their loo. People can then review it.
Airpnp launched just under a year ago in New Orleans after the city council there outlawed Porta-Potties on the parade route during Mardi Gras.
The app’s most popular cities are New Orleans and Antwerp, Belgium, but Laurendine tells of a Brooklyn user who made more than $100 renting out his washroom to washed-up partygoers.
In Bushwick, entrepreneur Nadav Ullman, 24, offers up his bathroom for $5. Except he waived the price for the one Airpnp customer he’s had so far — a girl from New Jersey.
“Maybe it’s ’cause I’m a nice guy,” said Ullman. “But probably because it feels weird to ask money for something I would offer for no money.”
The OrangeYouGlad designers are clear about their preferred customers.
“We would prefer pee-ers to poopers,” said Duncan. “But people are not going to be questioned about what they need the bathroom for.”

Toilet Replacement Lids - Gold found hidden in plane toilet - This Old Toilet 800-658-4521

Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Chennai seized gold bars weighing seven kg, worth Rs. 1.90 crore, kept hidden in the toilet of an aircraft that flew in from Singapore, on Saturday.
Four persons were arrested in connection with the smuggling.

The DRI authorities said they had specific information of a gang trying to smuggle in gold from abroad by concealing it in the toilet of the aircraft.

Following this, the authorities searched the aircraft that came from Singapore. They found packets containing gold bars inside the toilet.

On suspicion, they intercepted two passengers — Syed Abuthahir (23) and Mohamed Azaruden (22) of Chennai — who confessed to smuggling the gold.

The two men also told the authorities that their accomplices — Radhakrishnan (44) and Salahudeen (33) — were assigned to retrieve the gold when the same aircraft flew in the domestic sector later in the day.
The officials arrested all four men and further investigation is on.
